Respect from a father to a son…and from a son to a father. The kid respects his father, but he may also want to be his own man….even in the same city that his father played.

Despite inheriting his father's athletic and dunking ability, Nance Jr. lacks his father's scoring touch. Junior's lack of a jump shot really hurts his game. The elder Nance can consistently hit 10-15 footers. hit free throws, make the correct passes/reads, and finish much more consistently at the rim. Most importantly of all, he was a defensive genius who was quick and nimble for a 6'10 PF. One can say Nance Sr. was the first model of the Shawn Kemps, Blake Griffins, etc. He probably wasn't kidding when he said his son can't beat him now.

We'll see how Junior progresses his game now that he's with the Cavs. Hopefully he'll develop that jumper and not just be a hustle/D guy.

I started watching bball in 87, and Senior was my favorite player. CUz i couldn't shoot but, I could out jump everyone and defend. WAs a pleasure to watch JR for my Lakers…hope one day we resign him. Great role player and even greater person. Plus, Jr. was ROBBED last night in Dunk Contest!.

Looks like Larry Sr. got his wish, Larry Jr will reportedly switch to #22 sometime in the next month, Cavs will keep the dads number in the rafters but still unretire it for his son. Similar to how Spurs unretired Bowen's #12 when they signed LA in 2015.
